Broken Window

Red sunrise and I’m starring out the window
Flag at the bank tells you where the wind blows
Two head lights bring the morning paper
Finish the puzzle, read the rest later
They say out of sight then out of mind
There goes one more night and still I’m not blind

Yes, I’ve seen
Yes, I’ve seen and heard it all
Yes, I’ve seen you come and go and back again
We can’t start clean
Ignore the writing on the wall
Yes, I’ve seen you come and go and back again

Another bottle of wine, another pot of coffee
Flip through the channels, there ain’t nothing on I want to see
Fix that old porch swing once and for all
Sweep of the glass of another broken window
Burn that Christmas tree in our backyard
Take your pictures down, it can’t be that hard

Yes, I’ve seen
Yes, I’ve seen and heard it all
Yes, I’ve seen you come and go and back again
We can’t start clean
Pretend that we’re not about to fall
Yes, I’ve seen you come and go and back again

Yes, I’ve seen you come and go and back again

Ruby Sue

Ruby Sue drove her Subaru
Out to San Diego
Passin’ cars and Winnebagos
On the desert floor

When she hit that Golden State
She looked out on the water
And right then and there it caught her
And she knew what she had to do

She said this world is a mystery
Some say it's always been
Figure it out, you'll start over again
And, she shed a tear
For the passing year
And all those ships at the bottom of the sea

Ruby Sue drove her Subaru
Out to New York City
Where the boys and girls are pretty
And oh so qualified

Stood there on that filthy street
And felt the passing cars
She looked up to see the starlight
But just saw windows in their place

She said this world is a mystery
Some say it's always been
Figure it out, you'll start over again
Then, she shed a tear
For the passing year
And all lost loves that will never be

Ruby Sue parked her Subaru
Starred out in the sunset
Thought to get her feet wet
Cause they were bone dry

Slowly climbed into the back seat
Her tiny hands were shaking
She was dressed all in white
When she turned out the light
And they never heard from her again

This world is a mystery
Some say it's always been
Figure it out, you'll start over again
You can shed your tears
For the passing years
And, all those ships at the bottom of the sea
And, all lost loves that will never ever be

My Old Man

Well, I remember steam on the water
And, chewing Big Red Gum
And, the way he tapped that steering wheel
With his finger and his thumb
And, I don’t know how he could do it
But, somehow he’d always know
When Chucky’s on vacation
when Toys r Us was closed

He knew Peter and he knew Paul
When it was said and done, he’d square ‘em all
Raising up two kids and all
My old man

Well, sometimes we’d go see his sister
then to the Dew Drop Inn
He’d steam his hat on the kitchen stove
and leave his with our kin
Then, he’d throw my over his shoulder
and his clothes they smelled like the bar
I could barely keep one eye open
As he carried me to the car

He knew Peter and he knew Paul
When it was said and done, he’d square ‘em all
Raising up two kids and all
My old man

He knew Peter and he knew Paul
When it was said and done, he’d square ‘em all
Raising up two kids and all
My old man

Second Avenue

I’m standing round 2nd Avenue
Wishing I could talk to you
So, I stopped in to see if I could call
Wondering what your distance means
If things are really what they seem
Sometime they don’t mean anything at all

And, all my friends they say the same
She took your love but not your name
And tore down the Rome that was built in one day
You played fiddle while I sang along
And stole the words to every song
You know that we were built to burn anyway

Have you ever known me not to call
Have you ever known me not to need your love at all
Cause I have never loved
Nor will I ever love
The way that I
Loved you

And, all my friends they say the same
She took your love but not your name
And tore down the Rome that was built in one day
You played fiddle while I sang along
And stole the words to every song
You know that you were built to burn anyway

Have you ever known me not to drink
Falling down drunk and I can’t even think
But I have never drank
Nor will I ever drink
The way that I
Drank you

I have never drank
Nor will I ever drink
The way that I
Drank you
I still do

Cats and Dogs

Dead is dying and alive don’t wanna live
Sleep is tired and a giver don't want to give
Peace is picking a fight
Loose is keeping tight
Dead is dying and alive don’t wanna live

Great is awful, sad is having a ball
Cold is sweating while nothing is getting it all
Hungry's getting full
Square is super cool
Great is awful and sad is having a ball

Cats and dogs
Fire and rain
You and I
Joy and Pain
Cats and dogs
Fire and rain
You and I
Joy and Pain

Free's a dollar and keep-it’s trying to give it away
Rock is rolling and leaving is gonna stay
Sick is feeling good
Can is thinking could
Free's a dollar and keep-it’s trying to give it away

Dead is dying and alive don’t wanna live
Sleep is tired and a giver isn’t going to give
Peace is picking a fight
Loose is keeping tight
Dead is dying and alive don’t wanna live

Cats and dogs
Fire and rain
You and I
Joy and Pain
Cats and dogs
Fire and rain
You and I
Joy and Pain

Heaven White

Walking in a lonely night
Thinking of the sweet song you sang to me
Heaven is smiling down
Humming those words that you used to say
Your family is gathered round
Bowing our heads as your daddy prays
In the middle, I will sing to you
A song that will slowly lift your eyes my way

I know I’ve found you love
And, I know I’ve found you love

Carrying a simple phrase
Over and over I will drink that tune
Every song that you know by heart
Belongs to me and you and no one else
The moment is heaven white
The whole world listens as I say your name
Your name is a thousand years
Time could stop and still we wouldn’t care

I know I’ve found you love
And, I know I’ve found you love

So the story goes
I was blind and now I see
And my blues have turned to green
You are the best of me
You are the rest of me

The moment is heaven white
The whole world listens as I say your name
Your name is a thousand years
Time could stop and still it wouldn’t fade

I know I’ve found you love
And, I know I’ve found you love

Can’t Be All That Bad

You misunderstood what I was saying
When I told you I could drive
You were acting single, drinking double
Hell, we barely made it out alive
Where the hell is my pickup truck?
Who paid my tab?
When I’m feeling good, it can’t be all that bad

How many times you gonna say it?
She was just an old friend
Hand me that cocaine in the glove box
Ain’t gonna tell you again
I left your sister in the parking lot
I think I fought your dad
When I’m feeling good, it can’t be all that bad

Take it leave with me and mine
We’ll see what we can do
I’m just trying to keep my head above the water
Is that alright with you?

Take it leave with me and mine
We’ll see what we can do
I’m just trying to keep my head above the water
Is that alright with you?

I left your sister in the parking lot
I think I fought your dad
When I’m feeling good, it can’t be all that bad

Ya, when I’m feeling good, it can’t be all that bad

Like the Sun

Can you feel
Warm around you like the sun
It won’t be long
It’s not real
The losing battle you have won
It won’t be long

Heaven that is smiling is gone
Heaven
Heaven that is smiling is gone
Gone

Why can’t you understand
I can’t move my hand
I can’t make my mind up
Why don’t you try to see
This can’t be all me
This can’t be all me

Can you feel
Warm around you like my sun
It won’t be long
It’s not real
Losing battles just begun
It won’t be long
No, it won’t

Heaven that is smiling is gone
Heaven
Heaven that is smiling is gone
Gone

Why can’t you understand
I can’t move my head
I can’t make my mind up
Why don’t you try to see
This can’t be all me
This can’t be all me

Do you hear what I said
I won’t leave my bed
I can’t make my mind up
Why don’t you try to see
This can’t be all me
This can’t be all me

Why can’t you understand
I can’t move my head
I can’t make my mind up
Why don’t you try to see
This can’t be all me
This can’t be all me

Did you hear what I said
I won’t leave my bed
I can’t make my mind up
Why don’t you try to see
This can’t be all me
This is not all me

Love is not enough!

Standing all day, although
When I lay down, I’ll know
I can’t fall asleep
Till I’m awake
I don’t know how long that will take
Bend and I bend, I won’t break

Searching all day, to get by
Finding my way, I’ll try
But, no part of you, none you will hear
And, it seems like this time every year

Searching the skies for the stars to align
Though it is nearly dawn
I can’t remember the face that you’ve drawn
It’s not enough

Can’t fall asleep
Till I’m awake
I don’t know how long that will take
Bend and I bend, I won’t break

The Siren

She walks softly with the wind
With a cold drink in her hand
And a mind full of sin
Barroom looks with bedroom eyes
Like an icy wind blowing through you
You won’t even realize

You’re going down down down

Happens time and time again
When the rules are written by the Siren
In a game that you can’t win
Stop her song no matter how you try
Well, your prize will be the jagged shore
And below the by and by

You’re going down down down
Down down down
Down down down
Going down
And she’ll leave in the morning

Don’t let her put her hair down
Lord, don’t look her in the eye
When the morning comes
You’ll find nothing but a cold cold bed
Without a chance to say goodbye

She walks softly with the wind
With a cold drink in her hand
And a mind full of sin
Mind full of sin

Whiskey Beer and Wine

Always like a smoky bar
Always like a neon sign
Hangin’ with my good time friends
Well, we’re drinking whiskey, beer and wine

Always like a barroom brawl
Never have liked closing time
If you give me just more drink
I’ll have another whiskey, beer and wine

The moon comes out when she wants to
The stars they’re bound to fall
The sun comes up cause he has to
Ya, but we don’t care at all

Wanna see that dance floor move
When the band’s rocking double time
Shoot a little eight ball pool
Well, we’re drinking whiskey, beer and wine

Always like a smoky bar
Always love a neon sign
And, if we’re havin’ just one more drink
I’ll have another whiskey, beer and wine

The moon comes out when she wants to
The stars they’re bound to fall
The sun comes up cause he has to
Ya, but we don’t care at all

The moon comes out when she wants to
The stars they’re bound to fall
The sun comes up cause they pay him to
Ya, but we don’t care at all
No, we don’t care at all

Wondrous Creation

Do you know who are, he said with a smile
I’ve watched you walk circles for hundreds of miles
And, I’ve see you stare blindly at my living light
As you turn once again, to the darkness of night

But, the window is open, you go as you please
Speak of the forest while you sleep in the trees
And, I’ll go on forever, forever and again
I am that ending in a world without end

Do you know
Do you know who you are
The sun and the moon and the stars
And, if you shall stumble, I’ll tell you again
You’re my most wondrous creation my friend

One by one, you push them away
Till your clean hands are empty at the end of the day
So, you fill up your body with cocaine and booze
And, off you go running in a free world you choose

But, the window is open, you go as you please
Speak the forest while you sleep in the trees
And, I’ll go on forever, till the end of all time
I am that whisper in the back of your mind

Do you know
Do you know who you are
The sun and the moon and the stars
And, if you shall stumble, I’ll tell you again
You’re my most wondrous creation my friend

You’re my most wondrous creation my friend

You Wrote the Book

The phone won’t stop ringing
Her mind won’t stop ringing
Tell me where have you been until now

You haven’t been listening
My arms won’t stop reaching
Tell me where have you been until now
Tell me where have you been until now

You found a hero that you could love
You picked a story you couldn’t be a part of
You wrote the book then you cried at the ending
There’s not much more that you can say
Line after line, the prose of pretending
You wrote the book

In spite of all your pleading
My mouth won’t stop bleeding
Tell me where have you been until now
Tell me where have you been until now

You found a hero that you could love
You picked a story you couldn’t be a part of
You wrote the book then you cried at the ending
There’s not much more that you can say
Line after line, the prose of pretending
You wrote the book

Turn the Cold Shoulder

Well, I can’t help but question my current direction
I know more than the winds and the weather shall change
I called on the dancers
Questioned the answers
Body dies but the soul will remain

Will I know you again?
Will I see you again?

Well, I come from a land of wandering strangers
I’ve been a lot of places and a whole lot of faces
More than the winds and the weather shall change

Well, I tried to mention my soul’s in suspension
Seeking a level on a higher plane
You turned a cold shoulder
I’m a thousand years older
I don’t fear the needle because I won’t feel the pain

Will I know you again?
Will I see you again?

Well, I come from a land of wandering strangers
I’ve been a lot of places and seen a whole lot of faces
Body dies but the soul will remain

So, there’s no need to question your current direction
More than the winds and the weather shall change
So call on your dancers
To hell with the answers
Body dies but the soul will remain

And I will know you again
And I will see you again

Well, I come from a land of wandering strangers
I’ve been a lot of places and seen a whole lot of faces
I don’t fear the needle because I won’t feel the pain
I ain’t feeling’ no pain

FUPM

I’m looking good out and I’m ready to go
Bottle of pills and a concrete floor
I don’t know
I can’t feel it

Somebody tell me which way to go
I want to listen to a rock ‘n roll show
I don’t know
But, I can’t hear it

I don’t remember going out of my mind
Somebody said I had a hell of a time

Somebody tell me which way to go
I want to listen to a rock ‘n roll show
I don’t know
But, I can’t hear it

Turn all the lights on cause I’m ready to go
Broken string, broken bone
Ya, I know
But, I can’t feel it

I don’t remember going out of my mind
Somebody said I had a hell of a time

I don’t remember going out of my mind
Somebody said I had a hell of a time

Light of the World

I am the light of the world
And, whosoever believes in me
Shall not walk in darkness
But shall live
The light of life
The light of life

There were some who called him Father
Others call him a liar
I called him Savior
As I stood in the fire

Said listen to me children
Cast you nets the other way
And act not as I do
But hear what I say

I am the light of the world
And, whosoever believes in me
Shall not walk in darkness
But shall live
The light of life
The light of life

And, He is
The I am
And, I am
What He is

And, He is
The I am
And, I am
Yes, I am
The light of life
And, whosoever believes in me
Shall walk not in darkness
But shall live

Now. Here. This.

The Impossible

Sun came up this morning
And it's way too soon
Circled around the room
And landed on the bed I lay on
Sun came up this morning
And it's way too soon
I’ve been howling at the moon
Singing crazy as a loon once again

Can’t help but think about the way it used to be
Press your lips to mine as the rain fell hard against my window
Can’t help but think about the way it used to be
When it was only you and me
We would lay up in my bedroom all day long

If I could do
The impossible
I would crawl into your arms
If life was like it supposed to be
You would call my name out loud
Call my name out loud

Can’t help but think about the way it used to be
Press your lips to mine as the rain fell hard against my window
Can’t help but think about the way it used to be
When it was only you and me
We would lay up in my bedroom all day long

Sun came up this morning
And it's way too soon
Circled around the room
And landed on the bed I lay on
Sun came up this morning
And it's way too soon
I’ve been howling at the moon
Singing crazy as a loon once again

If I could do
The impossible
I would crawl into your arms
If life was like it supposed to be
You would call my name out loud
Call my name out loud

Slice of Heaven

Well, I was looking for a little vacation
And, I was headed for the snow
I said you wanna make it a good one
She said just give me a reason to go
We took off like a thief in the night
Throwing away our simple life

Just a little slice of heaven
And, a little taste of hell
Trying to find the words that’s on my mind
That no one knows
Not as far as I can tell

You know that road will open up your eyes
See it all up ahead
When that windshield rolls like a movie
With the shoulder as your bed
By the time we rolled into Steamboat
Well, she said this must be wrong

Just a little slice of heaven
And, a little taste of hell
Trying to find the words that’s on my mind
That no one knows
Not as far as I can tell

She left me nothing but heartache
Squatting and bumming beers
It don’t matter where she’s off to
Can’t be better off than here
Well, today I might be cold and alone
 But, tomorrow I’ll be gone

Just a little slice of heaven
And, a little taste of hell
Trying to find the words that’s on my mind
That no one knows
Not as far as I can tell

Just a little slice of heaven
And, a little taste of hell
Trying to find the words that’s on my mind
That no one knows
Not as far as I can tell

Gypsy

It was about two years ago
In a town I can’t remember the name
Met a girls who said she was a gypsy
Bought a beer and I bought her the same

She had glitter in her hair
And a lucky strike in her hand
Told me she’d been searching round
Round the world for a good old man

Then, a boy climbed behind his Alvarez
Singing miles under his belt
And, I don’t know if it was the whiskey or them kisses
But I knew just how he felt

And, we danced to that music
And, we sang to every song

Bartender yelled out last call
And the room, she started to spin
Put a shot of jager in front of me and whispered
Here we go again, boy

I chocked back my water eyes
Said I’ve had my fill
She said you better take me home now, boy
Because if you don’t, somebody will

And, we danced to that music
And, we sang to every song, every song

She had the words and I had the music
With the sounds that came from above
Sun came up and she was gone
Till this day, I’m still in love

When we danced to that music
When we sang to every song, every song, every song

Send Me Home

Ol’ sun is slidin’
Further down the hill
Well, I grab my cigarette
And, the rest of my will
A dream and a nightmare
No end in sight
Well, ain’t no one looking
For me tonight

Well, Lord come save me now
Cause I feel so alone
Old barroom stool
Don’t feel like a home

And, leaving is easy Lord
But, there’s no place to go
Ah, sail me away
And, send me home

I once was a young man
My whole life ahead
Now, I feel like an old man
Half drunk and almost dead

And, leaving is easy Lord
But, there’s no place to go
Ah, sail me away
And, send me home

Ah, sail me away
And, send me home

Angels and Devils

One summer evening
On a back porch in Oklahoma
Thought about my short life
And the works of my hand

Then, that same old feeling
For as long as I remember
Standing on the outside just trying to get in

Sometimes I feel low
Sometimes I feel down
But, them angels and devils make sure that I’m always around

Thought about a lost love
In the hills out in Albuquerque
Oh, how the one did hurt me
But somehow I got by

Then, I heard a whisper
On the winds that blew around me
Said I won’t live forever, son
But, I will never die

Sometimes I feel low
Sometimes I feel down
But, them angels and devils make sure that I’m always around

I recall the wise man
On the banks of a muddy river
Passing me my wineskin on warm July day
Said son I’ve lived a hard one
But there’s one thing you must remember
It ain’t the road that will get you
It’s the stops along the way

Sometimes I feel low
Sometimes I feel down
But, them angels and devils make sure that I’m always around

Virgin in the Fire

There’s a virgin dancing in the fire
She won’t give into her desire
There’s a savior setting golden sun
Well, he thinks he’s the only one

And away
Will they wait for you?
To do what you want to do
To do what you had to do
Cause I will wait for you
To do what you came to do
To do what you want to do

There’s a building made of earth and stone
Left my children all alone
There’s devil and I’m keeping score
Look out now he’s locked the door

And away
Will they wait for you?
To do what you had to do
To do what you came to do
Cause I will wait for you
To do what you came to do
To do what you want to do

And away
Will they wait for you?
To do what you came to do
To do what you had to do
Cause I will wait for you
To do what you had to do
To do what you want to do

Prettiest Girl at the Dance

Well, I signed my name in the year of ‘01
Mother was gone
Father’s only son
Said for God and Country
And all of your kind
But, I ain’t got nothing but you on my mind

Pretty brown haired girl in the summertime
Yellow dress all around
Blue eyes that I get lost in
Take my hand
Prettiest girl at the dance

Well, they flew me across the ocean so blue
But, I ain’t got nothing if I ain’t got you
Then, they gave me a riffle and stood me in line
But, I ain’t got nothing but you on my mind

Pretty brown haired girl in the summertime
Yellow dress falling down
Blue eyes that I get lost in
Take my hand
Let me be your man
Prettiest girl at the dance

Well, they flew me back home with a purple heart
But, my heart was broken because we were apart
Well, they flew me across the ocean so blue
But, I ain’t got nothing if I ain’t got you

Pretty brown haired girl in the summertime
With her tears falling down
Blue eyes that I get lost in
Take my hand
Let me be your man
I swear to God
You’re the prettiest girl at the dance

Take my hand

Mercy

Mercy smiled and turned around slow
Then, she walked away as I said
Guess I better be moving on cause you know I want to stay
These days we’ve spent together
Seem like years
Better not forget about me
She said, though fighting the tears

Times like this I won’t remember
But, I can’t forget
Stepping out on a lifetime road as her eyes were getting wet
Told Mercy not to cry
It ain’t as bad as it seems
Who knows, I may be back someday
So close your eyes and kiss my lips
I’ll see you in my dreams
But, now I’ve got to be on my way

Then, I put that car in drive
Was gonna try to catch the sun
With my heart aching in my chest
Like a shot from a loaded gun
Rolled out on a Tuesday morning
Didn’t leave a trace
With rain hitting on the windshield
Like tears on a crying face

Seems I lost myself again
But, I don’t know how
I’m too tired to keep on going
It’s too late to turn around
Because I spent some time in a five by nine out in Salina, Kansas
Saved my soul and sent me on my way
Because they don’t much like folks
Who don’t believe in Jesus
I told them we would all see some day

We’d all see some day
We’d all see some day
We’d all see some day
We’d all see some day

Mercy smiled and turned around slow
Then she walked away

Allison’s Heart

Couldn’t be mine if I wanted it to be
Try and try but I still can’t make her see
That I could give her everything she’ll ever need
If she’d just be with me

It was raining on that day we met
I fell in love but she hasn’t fallen yet
Whatever she wants is exactly what she’ll get
If she’d just be with me

I’m in love with Allison’s heart
I’m in love with Allison’s heart
In love with Allison’s heart
But, it’s not in love with me
No, it’s not in love with me

She’s a star that I just cannot catch
And, I’m a fly caught in her web
She’s a love that I just can’t forget
So, why can’t I see

Couldn’t be mine if I wanted it to be
Try and try but I still can’t make her see
That I could give her everything she’ll ever need
If she’d just be with me

I’m in love with Allison’s heart
I’m in love with Allison’s heart
In love with Allison’s heart
And, I guess I’ll always be
And, I guess I’ll always be
And, I guess I’ll always be

Whiskey Breath

I’ve been down
I’ve been here before
I’m not feeling like that anymore
Whiskey Breath
Smoke my cigarette
I’m not feeling like that anymore

Save my money up
Gonna buy you a wedding ring
Save my money up
Gonna go to town instead

Feel her out
See what she thinks about it
She won’t let me do that anymore
Falling down
While my head is spinning
I’m not feeling like that anymore

Save my money up
Gonna buy you a wedding ring
Save my money up
Gonna go to town instead
Gonna go to town instead

Feel her out
See what she thinks about it
She won’t let me do that anymore
Falling down
While my head is spinning
I’m not feeling like that anymore

Save my money up
Gonna buy you a wedding ring
Save my money up
Gonna go to town instead
Gonna go to town instead

Gonna go to town instead

Weather Channel

When you see his mighty hand
Turn another page
Its the blessing of creation
Coming of an age
You know all things I’ve collected
Nothing’s truly saved
There are no exceptions
You are just the same

Watching weather channel on mescaline
Shut up, shut up, world’s going to end
The winds are blowing up and the trees burning down
Shut up, shut up, don’t make a sound
Watching weather channel on mescaline
Shut up, shut up, world’s going to end
The winds are blowing up and the trees burning down

Weak stimulation, passage of the time
We’ve got nothing on the universe
She follows her own line
And change is what’s eternal
Got to play the game
While everything’s keeps turning
How do we stay the same?
Just the same

Watching weather channel on mescaline
Shut up, shut up, world’s going to end
The winds are blowing up and the trees burning down
Shut up, shut up, don’t make a sound
Watching weather channel on mescaline
Shut up, shut up, world’s going to end
The winds are blowing up and the trees burning down

There are so many times
When I don’t know know know know

There are so many times
When I don’t know know know know

Don’t Matter

Barefooted babies crying in the street
Mommy ain’t got no money
So, they ain’t got shit to eat
Daddy’s in that cage
Brother’s filled with rage
Gonna buy a shotgun
Gonna turn another page

Don’t matter how you get it, Lord
Make sure that you do
Don’t matter how you get it, Lord
Just make sure that you do

Check out all them brothers
Hanging out at bars
Starring at them pretty girls
And driving fancy cars
See that one right there
Pretty long blonde hair
Got that cheese just selling ass
Lord, she don’t even care

Don’t matter how you get it, Lord
Make sure that you do
Don’t matter how you get it, Lord
Just make sure that you do

Don’t matter how you get it
Make sure that you do
If they can do it
Bet your ass that you can do it too

Don’t matter how you get it, Lord
Make sure that you do
Don’t matter how you get it, Lord
Just make sure that you do

I said make sure that you do
You better make damn well sure that you do
Better make
Better make
Better make sure that you do

Last Call

Before long he’s living for the party
Still ain’t seen nothing like this
Now, he had insight but he done forgot it
One more thing for him to miss

He don’t go out much in the daytime
Cause the sun hurts his eyes
He stays busy living in his own mind
Trying to find the truth in lies

Last call everybody
Throw ‘em down before it's time to leave
Where we going to everybody
Seems so hard to believe

Another day come just like the last one
He don’t feel nothing in his hand
Sleep it off now you’ll have a good one
You’ll have more than you can stand

Gonna burn one more down

Ain’t nothing else to do anyway
Gonna try to race to the bottom of this thing
Before I hear that barman say

Last call everybody
Throw ‘em down before it's time to leave
Where we going to everybody
Seems so hard to believe

Before long he’s living for the party
Still ain’t seen nothing like this
Now, he had insight but he done…
One more thing for him to miss

He don’t go out much in the daytime
Cause the sun hurts his eyes
He stays busy living in his own mind
Trying to find the truth in lies
All them lies

Last call everybody
Throw ‘em down before its time to leave
Where we going to everybody
Seems so hard to believe

I don’t know where, no
I don’t know what they keep saying
I don’t know where, no no
I don’t know where
I don’t know where

I don’t know where, no
I don’t know what they keep saying
I don’t know where, no no
I don’t know where
I don’t know where

Welcome to the Well

First Last Stand

Cigarette says you will
Smoke says you won’t
Praying that you do
Knowing that you don’t
Feel that same way as I do
Feel about you
Live without you, now

Is it over now?
Now
Is it over now?

Stayed out all night
Solitary pill
Running out of life
Too afraid to kill
Kill those same things
That you do
Dead in your hands
My first last stand is now

And I’m leaving now
Now
I’m going now

Oh, I’ve been so alone
You find me waiting for you down the hall
Because, I miss you now
And, I need you

Cigarette says you will
Smoke says you won’t
Praying that you do
Knowing that you don’t
Feel that same way as I do
Feel about you
Live without you now

And it's over now
Now

Willow Tree

Under the shadow of a willow tree
Had to let my baby go
She didn’t know what she had done to me
So I had to let her know
Said she was leaving for another man
Headed out that afternoon
That’s when I took baby by her hand
Said you ain’t gonna leave so soon
So soon

You ain’t going no where
You ain’t going no where
You ain’t going no where
You ain’t going no where

Pulled little sister close to me
Whispering in her ear
No way you gonna get away from me
Then I grab a hold of her hair

Baby going down down down
Baby going down down down
Baby going down down down
Baby going down down down
Baby going down down down
Baby going down down down
Baby going down down down
Baby going down down down

Whiskey Breath

I’ve been down
I’ve been here before
I’m not feeling like that anymore
Whiskey Breath
Smoke my cigarette
I’m not feeling like that anymore

Save my money up
Gonna buy you a wedding ring
Save my money up
Gonna go to town instead

Feel her out
See what she thinks about it
She won’t let me do that anymore
Falling down
While my head is spinning
I’m not feeling like that anymore

Save my money up
Gonna buy you a wedding ring
Save my money up
Gonna go to town instead
Gonna go to town instead

Feel her out
See what she thinks about it
She won’t let me do that anymore
Falling down
While my head is spinning
I’m not feeling like that anymore

Save my money up
Gonna buy you a wedding ring
Save my money up
Gonna go to town instead
Gonna go to town instead
Gonna go to town instead

I’ve been down
I’ve been here before
I’m not feeling like that anymore
Whiskey Breath
Smoke my cigarette
I’m not feeling like that anymore

Save my money up
Gonna buy you a wedding ring
Save my money up
Gonna go to town instead
Gonna go to town instead
Gonna go to town instead

Prettiest Girl at the Dance

Well, I signed my name in the year of ‘01
Mother was gone
Father’s only son
Said for God and Country
And all of your kind
But, I ain’t got nothing but you on my mind

Pretty brown haired girl in the summertime
Yellow dress all around
Blue eyes that I get lost in
Take my hand
Prettiest girl at the dance

Well, they flew me across the ocean so blue
But, I ain’t got nothing if I ain’t got you
Then, they gave me a riffle and stood me in line
But, I ain’t got nothing but you on my mind

Pretty brown haired girl in the summertime
Yellow dress falling down
Blue eyes that I get lost in
Take my hand
Let me be your man
Prettiest girl at the dance

Well, they flew me back home with a purple heart
But, my heart was broken because we were apart
Well, they flew me across the ocean so blue
But, I ain’t got nothing if I ain’t got you

Pretty brown haired girl in the summertime
With her tears falling down
Blue eyes that I get lost in
Take my hand
Let me be your man
I swear to God
You’re the prettiest girl at the dance

Take my hand

The Impossible

Sun came up this morning
And it's way too soon
Circled around the room
And landed on the bed I lay on
Sun came up this morning
And it's way too soon
I’ve been howling at the moon
Singing crazy as a loon once again

Can’t help but think about the way it used to be
Press your lips to mine as the rain fell hard against my window
Can’t help but think about the way it used to be
When it was only you and me
We would lay up in my bedroom all day long

If I could do
The impossible
I would crawl into your arms
If life was like it supposed to be
You would call my name out loud
Call my name out loud

Can’t help but think about the way it used to be
Press your lips to mine as the rain fell hard against my window
Can’t help but think about the way it used to be
When it was only you and me
We would lay up in my bedroom all day long

Sun came up this morning
And it's way too soon
Circled around the room
And landed on the bed I lay on
Sun came up this morning
And it's way too soon
I’ve been howling at the moon
Singing crazy as a loon once again

If I could do
The impossible
I would crawl into your arms
If life was like it supposed to be
You would call my name out loud
Call my name out loud

Truckstop

Four-thirty at a truckstop outside of Gainesville
I walked in to rest a while
Then a girl came in
To grab another tank full
She looked at me and I just smiled
I heard her say she'd been driving all night
She got to head to the city just to catch a flight
But it don't leave until the afternoon

She said I've done my time in Texas
And I've never seen Paris France
And a postcard from a friend of mine
Said this might just be my chance
I fly out of Oklahoma
Do you think you'd like a ride?
Or will you walk away from another day
With your thumb aimed at the sky

We spent that morning on the road
Sharing tales and getting high
Then she said hey mister it's time to go
And I just hate to say goodbye
All them times that I've been burned
There's still one lesson that I won't learn
You don't know what you have until it's gone

I got a three day walk to Texas
And it's raining in Paris France
And I'd grab that girl and I'd love her, lord
If I only had the chance
So God smile on Oklahoma
Because I can't seem to find a ride
As I walk away from another day
With my thumb aimed at the sky.

Sara

Sara walks along the beach
Holding hands with me
Smiling as we go

Said that she is so in love
And, I’m staring at my feet
Wondering how to spell her name

Sara don’t know
It takes a lot of love to live a lie
I’ve often told
And, when I go
I will leave between the middle of the night
That’s when I’ll go

Sara’s only seventeen
And, I’m barely twenty-one
Too young to be a man

Now, it’s time for me to go
And, I have to let her know
Well, I hope she understands

Sara don’t know
It takes a lot of love to live a lie
That I’ve often told
And, when I go
I will leave between the middle of the night
That’s when I’ll go

Now, I’m walking on the beach
Salty summer breeze
Broken heart in tow

Then, the moment our eyes meet
She smiles back at me
As I begin to spell her name

Sara don’t know
It takes a lot of love to live a lie
That I’m often told
And, when I go
I will leave between the middle of the night
That’s when I’ll go

Angels and Devils

One summer evening
On a back porch in Oklahoma
Thought about my short life
And the works of my hand

Then, that same old feeling
For as long as I remember
Standing on the outside just trying to get in

Sometimes I feel low
Sometimes I feel down
But, them angels and devils make sure that I’m always around

Thought about a lost love
In the hills out in Albuquerque
Oh, how the one did hurt me
But somehow I got by

Then, I heard a whisper
On the winds that blew around me
Said I won’t live forever, son
But, I will never die

Sometimes I feel low
Sometimes I feel down
But, them angels and devils make sure that I’m always around

I recall the wise man
On the banks of a muddy river
Passing me my wineskin on warm July day
Said son I’ve lived a hard one
But there’s one thing you must remember
It ain’t the road that will get you
It’s the stops along the way

Sometimes I feel low
Sometimes I feel down
But, them angels and devils make sure that I’m always around

Best of the Situation

Play softly the notes I know
These days go by so slow
When it seems
You don’t have a direction

Don’t worry about where I’ve been
Open up and take me in
Because it feels
We have got a connection

Try living without a sound
Watch it all come tumbling down
Babylon
Is calling out to my nation

 If you listening come outside
There ain’t no reason to run and hide
Because it feels
We got us an obligation

There are times in our life when we know
There are times in our life when we don’t
There are times in our life when we must make
The best of the situation

Sweating blood with a shaking hand
Watch fire burn down this land
As the day
Surrenders to degradation

In the middle where the thoughts turn cold
Try to bring to mind what you’ve been told
As your heart
Compounds that complication

There are times in our life when we know
There are times in our life when we don’t
There are times in our life when we must make
The best of the situation

Don’t you want to see them all fall down?
Don’t you want to see them all fall down?
Don’t you want to see them all fall down?
Don’t you want to see them all fall down?

Just be careful about what you say
Never know when there might come a day
When you words
Will lead to a confrontation

Then I need to know whose side you’re on
Try to figure out what’s right and wrong
Then the deed
Will shatter that conversation

There are times in our life when we know
There are times in our life when we don’t
There are times in our life when we must make
The best of the situation

There are times in our life when we know
There are times in our life when we don’t
There are times in our life when we must make

Don’t you want to see them all fall down?
Don’t you want to see them all fall down?
Don’t you want to see them all fall down?
Don’t you want to see them all fall down?

Don’t you want to see them all fall down?
Don’t you want to see them all fall down?
Don’t you want to see them all fall down?
Don’t you want to see them all fall down?

Hello Moon

Hello moon my old friend
Its been a long times since the road has married us again
You look as though there’s something on your mind

See those stars up above us
Feel that sky all around us both
This path looks like heaven
Through your shine

And, led by the moon I’ll ride
Just to be back by your side
Guided by those stars I’ll drive
To come into your room
Hold your hand and sleep
To come into your room
Hold you next to me

Seven days come and gone now
Still this road’s got me humming that same old song
I can’t seem to drink you off my mind

I’d love to see your face again
Seems this bottle and this road may never end
Thought I was beyond but always falling behind

And, led by the moon I’ll ride
Just to be back by your side
Guided by those stars I’ll ride
To come into your room
Hold your hand and sleep
To come into your room
Hold you next to me

And, led by the moon I’ll ride
Just to be back by your side
Guided by those stars I’ll ride
To come into your room
Hold your hand and sleep
To come into your room
Hold you next to me

Virgin in the Fire

There’s a virgin dancing in the fire
She won’t give into her desire
There’s a savior setting golden sun
Well, he thinks he’s the only one

And away
Will they wait for you?
To do what you want to do
To do what you had to do
Cause I will wait for you
To do what you came to do
To do what you want to do

There’s a building made of earth and stone
Left my children all alone
There’s devil and I’m keeping score
Look out now he’s locked the door

And away
Will they wait for you?
To do what you had to do
To do what you came to do
Cause I will wait for you
To do what you came to do
To do what you want to do

And away
Will they wait for you?
To do what you came to do
To do what you had to do
Cause I will wait for you
To do what you had to do
To do what you want to do

Storm is on It's Way

Storm is on it's way
We don’t stand a chance against it
Blue skies to gray
Everything’s consumed within it

But, I’m not gonna hide
No, I’m not gonna hide
This time
This time

Each road is long
Every mile has an ending
Each right is wrong
Cannot end without beginning

But, I’m not gonna hide
No, I’m not gonna hide
This time
This time

Storm is on it's way
We don’t stand a chance against it
Blue skies, blue skies
Everything’s consumed

But, I’m not gonna hide
No, I’m not gonna hide
No, I’m not gonna hide
This time
This time
This time

I’ll Do It Again

Feet on the sidewalk
The sun on my face
Don’t know where I’m off to
Just out of this place

Went searching for silver
In a city of gold
Don’t do what I oughta
Just do what I’m told

Your love had ended
Before it begun
Sweet salted kisses
But you’re not the one

So, I’ll do it again
And, I’ll do it again

Drove two-thousand miles
Two minutes too late
With a fist full of flowers
I stood at your gate

But a snow must have fallen
Because my footsteps are gone
I looked back for you
You were gone all along

So, I’ll do it again
And, I’ll do it again

I said I love you
I must have lied
There’s no use in askin’
If my words make you cry

Cause, I have seen sunshine
And it felt just like rain
There is no pleasure
Greater than pain

So, I’ll do it again
And, I’ll do it again

Other

Wind on Sea

Wind on sea
Lead me back home
Boy to man
Guide me thy hand

Heard your call
To you my all
Day to night
In love in light

Devil’s throws were tempting me
Heaven’s light my eyes now see ya ya
Streets of gold ‘neath bended knee
Heaven’s light my eyes now see ya ya

Hear this plea
Lead me back home
Take this man
Guide me thy hand

Wind on sea
Lead me back home
Day to night
In love in light
In light

Devil’s throws were tempting me
Heaven’s light my eyes now see ya ya
Streets of gold ‘neath bended knee
Heaven’s light my eyes now see ya ya

Sweet Sister of Seven

Ever there was a certain way to live
Ever there was a happy day
Given away that what you’ve got to give
Knowing exactly what to say

I have known that before
I have known that before

Meeting the people with a smiling face
Sharing our love for everyone
Coming together in a different place
Circling around the setting sun

I have known that before
I have known that before
I have known that before
I have known that before

Sweet sister of seven states
Seven nights and for seven days
Angels spin as the heaven plays
Melody through a loving haze

I have known that before
I have known that before
I have known that before
I have known that before

Stay Up

In my bubble just a little while
Guaranteed to make you smile
Go the extra mile and stay

When you flash your smile my way
Nothing I can do, nothing I can say, no
And I feel so high, so high
I don’t want to come down

Just want to stay up
Stay up
Just want to stay up
Just stay

In this dream of me and you
Grass is green and that sky is blue
There ain’t no clouds, no clouds
I don’t want to come down

Just want to stay up
Stay up
Just want to stay up
Just stay

In my bubble just a little while
Guaranteed
Go the extra mile and stay
Stay

We can stay in bed all day
Pull the covers up
Sit and waste away And I don’t know why, oh why
I don’t want to come down

The day has shown to starry night
Watch your body move
In that candle light
And, I’m still so high, so high
And I don’t want to come down

Just want to stay up
Stay up
Just want to stay up
Just stay

In my bubble just a little while
Guaranteed
Go the extra mile and stay
Stay

When you flash your smile my way
Nothing I can do, nothing I can say, no
And I’m still so high, so high
I don’t want to come down
Just want to stay up

Stay up
Just want to stay up
Just stay
Just want to stay up

Stay up
Just want to stay up
Just stay
Just stay

Can you feel me darlin’?
Can you hear the words I'll sing to you?
You don’t have to go no where
Just stay

Can you feel me darlin’?
Can you see the way I look at you?
I don’t have to go no where
Just stay
Just stay

Sit and Wonder

They say the road is a place a man should go
When he feels there’s no place to call home
They won’t say just how far our travels should go
Some things a man must learn on his own

Let the roll on
Sit and wonder
Let the roll on
To the sea
Let the roll on
Till you’re happy
Roll on home
Roll on home to me

The road is a treat for a man who lives on a memory
But at the end of the day, you learn to let a memory go
They won’t say just how far our travels should go
Some things a man must learn on his own

Let the roll on
Sit and wonder
Let the roll on
To the sea
Let the roll on
Till you’re satisfied
Roll on home
Roll on home to me

Let the roll on
Sit and wonder
Let the roll on
To the sea
Let the roll on
Till you’re happy
Roll on home
Roll on home to me
Roll on home
Roll on home to me

Sister Save Me

Oh, I said I’ve been away too long
Feel no sun is shining
Hear no song
See that sky is changing
Days are cold
No more time for waiting
I feel too old

Feel too old

All these things are spinning in my head
While our streets of gold are turning red
Sister can you save me, I’m going down
Stop this man from sinking in the ground

In the ground

(French verse)

(French verse)

In the ground
In the ground

Breath in close your eyes and lose the day
All that pain inside will go away
Thank you one more sister I’m going down
Stop this man from sinking in the ground

In the ground
In the ground

(French verse)

(French verse)

McKinney Tonight

Two days from no where
Spent two days out of my mind
Going on the road
Had to leave her behind
Stars and headlights
Lines are a blur
I look up to heaven
And whisper these words

Lord if you’re with me
Hear my silent prayer
Under your moonlit sky
Lord if you love me
Let me get to McKinney tonight

When I first knew her
She loved someone other than me
Now, I’m in her heart
But, in her arms is where I should be
If I could just see her
How long has it been?
I look up to heaven
And whisper again

Lord if you’re with me
Hear my silent pray
Under your moonlit sky
Lord if you love me
Let me get to McKinney tonight
Lord if you love me
Let me get to McKinney tonight

Lord if you’re with me
Hear my silent prayer
Under your moonlit sky
Lord if you love me
Let me get to McKinney tonight
Lord if you love me
Let me get to McKinney tonight

Leave You Behind

Saw you just the other day
Round my way
It had been so long
See you walked another mile
My sweet child
One more friend in the end

Didn’t turn out like you wanted to
Some old man done left you sad and blue
Nothings going to change
That look in your eye
Or the thought on my mind
But, this time
I’m going to leave you behind

Can I kiss your blood red lips
Hold your hand
Let’s pretend I’m your man
Pull the shades a little while
My sweet child
Same old friend in the end

Didn’t turn out like you wanted to
Some old man done left you sad and blue
Nothings going to change
That look in your eye
Or the thought on my mind
But, this time
Oh oh oh this time
I’m going to leave you behind

Gray Sky

Sitting at a bus stop
Wet ticket in my hand
Well, I had to leave
Knew you wouldn’t understand

It seems time and distance
Are the only ones I need
What makes me vanish
Is a greater mystery

But, I’ll sing you a love song
Yeah, if it’ll make you smile
And, I’ll play you a soft tune
Maybe stay for awhile

And, I know you love me
Yeah, but I’m chasing a dream
There’s a gray sky above me
And the rain’s in between

Climbing on a greyhound
Trying to keep a song
Scribbling in a notebook
Wondering where I went wrong

Tired of the old ways
Too tired to start anew
Written in the cosmos
The end of me and you

But, I’ll sing you a love song
Yeah, if it’ll make you smile

And, I’ll play you a soft tune
Maybe stay for awhile
And, I know you love me

Yeah, but I’m chasing a dream
There’s a gray sky above me
And the rain’s in between

Wipers keeping rhythm
Days before the dawn
Find out the hard way
Ever since I’ve been gone

I don’t mind the cold rain
And I don’t my the blues
Any way you take it
You got to pay for what you chose

But, I’ll sing you a love song
Yeah, if it’ll make you smile
And, I’ll play you a soft tune
Maybe stay for awhile

And, I know you love me
Yeah, but I’m chasing a dream
There’s a gray sky above me
And the rain’s in between

There’s a gray sky above me
And the rain’s in between

Fireside

Fireside how I love you
Wish there was a place I could run to
Guess I’ll step inside the van and catch a few winks
Cause the night is cold and the stars are fallen
And, I hear my best friends callin’
Come on outside and grab a few drinks

Case of beer and nine amigos
Fire up and a way that we go
Out on Highway 9 till the sky gets black
Loud music and lots of talking
Gotta go but we ain’t stopping
Somebody try and remember how we’re gonna get back
Ya, we gotta get back

Look up there now there they go
Front road seat on a gravel road
Stack them logs up
So we don’t get cold
Don’t worry about the law
Cause they never know

Took an hour just find it
Park in the road they’ll never mind it
Ain’t a soul for miles way out here
Crack that case cause I need a cold one
Over there, I think I saw one
Good God, we’re lucky that sky’s so clear

Four am, getting colder
Just froze so you better hold her
Maybe now’s the time to look for wood
Too many chiefs not near enough Indians
That’s too big now, we need some kindling’
Watch that pile go up and it sure feels good
Ya, it sure feels good

Look up there now there they go
Front road seat on a gravel road
Stack them logs up
So we don’t get cold
Don’t worry about the law
Cause they never know

Fireside, how I love you
Show is over and the sky is light blue
Time to spread those coals and pile on in
Cause the rooster says the night is over
Make sure that ain’t nobody sober
One hell of a night with my good friends
With my good friends

Look up there now there they go
Front road seat on a gravel road
Stack them logs up
So we don’t get cold
Don’t worry about the law
Cause they never know

Ya, don’t worry about the law
Cause they never know

Fall

Sometimes I don’t know where I’m going
Other times can’t remember where I’ve been
Long as the sun keeps showing
Don’t want to come back here again

Too many times I’ve seen your crying face
Too many times I’ve stood confused
When all this hurting has become common place
You feel broken, ya and I feel used

I’m gonna walk away
Feel I’ve said it all
Dancing in the spot light
You’re bound to take a fall
Oh, you’re bound to take a fall

All the energy in killing my emotion
You never listen to how I feel
Too busy learning all those motions
Too busy searching for the real

All this time that I spent running around
Ball and chain around my heart
It’s my mind I won’t keep dragging down
Stick it out, stick it out, to fall apart

I’m gonna walk away
Feel I’ve said it all
Dancing in the spot light
You’re bound to take a fall
Oh, you’re bound to take a fall

Bad Side of Better Me

Other day I saw the light
Stop doing wrong, start living right
Be a better man
A little bit more of what I ought to be
But seems I can’t throw it all away
Still got a bad side of better me

Dot my I’s, cross my T’s
Yes sir, no sir, I say please
With a helping hand
Oh, look at what an open eye can see
But, if you can’t help but drag my name down
Get on the bad side of better me
Oh, the bad side of better me

Said I like my new life
It’s working out
Greater glimpse of what it’s all about
Had to take a stand
Had to let a man be free
But free man still wears little chains
Keeping the bad side of better me

Keeping the bad side of better me
Oh, the bad side of better me
